Wayne County’s 17th annual Apple Tasting Tour kicks off this October, inviting families and apple lovers alike to visit the county and experience the many activities and treats it has to offer. As the largest apple-producing county in New York state – Wayne County partners with 15 local businesses and farms each year to host the Apple Tasting Tour. The tour will run all October long, with its big “Tasting Weekend” taking place Oct. 10-13 (Columbus Day Weekend).

All 15 stops on the tour offer a unique and fun “twist” on this annual harvest event. Pick your own apples at one of the many farms and apple orchards on the tour. Or sample wine, spirits and hard cider made from locally grown and harvested apples. Find your favorite variety of apple on the tour, or try a few new ones and hone your apple-tasting skills.

Throughout October, participate in the “Apple Tasting Tour Challenge.” Complete with a map and listing of businesses, navigate to each of the 15 stops and earn a stamp on the “Tour Passport.” At the end of the tour, passports can be returned for the chance to win one of four Gift Baskets. Passports are available at all the tour locations, online or by calling Wayne County Tourism at 800-527-6510.

The tour continues to add new and exciting features, including a new business and new products this year. Apple Town Farm Market in Williamson, N.Y. will join the tour as a new stop. Apple Country Spirits, an addition to the tour in 2013, has come out with a hard cider that will be available this fall. Young Sommer Winery is also unveiling a new product, an apple wine/Tree Vodka blend called Apfel Breeze.
