To open the agenda for the January 2nd Reorganizational meeting of the Board of Supervisors, a new Board Chairman needed to be chosen. The current Chairman, Williamson Supervisor Tony Verno, resigned his position on December 31, 2024.
A special meeting was held in Williamson to appoint his replacement there, but, as he was also Wayne County Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, a vote was necessary to fill his position and carry out County business.
Both Supervisors Michael Donalty of Walworth and Kim Leonard of Macedon noted their intention to run for the seat. Voting from the entire board, include the new Williamson Supervisor, Barry VanNostrand, put weighted voting to the test. The final numbers put the Chairmanship of the Board in the hands of Kim Leonard.
Her election will now make Leonard the first female Chairman in Wayne County, with the accomplishment noted and praised by Wayne County Republican Chairman MaryAnne Nicosia-McCarthy.
Supervisor Leonard was named and later elected to the position of Macedon Town Supervisor following an unexpected death of the elected Supervisor Paul Kenyon (who never had the chance to serve). She has served since then.
Kim has worked to the Town of Macedon since January 2, 1984. She served as Clerk to the supervisor, then Town Bookkeeper for Macedon, then Town Councilperson, before becoming Town Supervisor.
On the County Board of Supervisors, Kim has served as chairman of the Finance Committee, and serves now on the Government Ops committee.
Supervisor Leonard stated: "The importance of female leadership is not to be overlooked. It allows our young female leaders in our future to pursue their dreams, no matter how big or small they may be.
The greatest honor for me is being chosen because of endless dedication to a career that I have chosen, starting my 41st year with the Town of Macedon. It began in 1984 as the Clerk to the Supervisor and on 1/2/2025 as the Madam Chair.
"It shows all the effort, dedication, hard work, and sacrifices are worth what it takes to succeed.
My passion has always been to help people, employees, businesses, constituents, anyone who was not sure where to get answers.
Here’s to 2025, a year of transparency, accountability, and availability by the Wayne County Board of Supervisors for Department Heads, County employees, and our constituents."
