On Wednesday (11/19) the Macedon Police Department reported the arrest of Tracy Tyman, age 32, of Evergreen Hills Apartments, Macedon for Grand Larceny 4th (Felony).
The arrest stems from a purse snatching complaint at the Walmart Supercenter where it is reported that Tyman followed an elderly woman in an electric handicap shopping cart from the store to her vehicle. Once at the vehicle Tyman then grabbed the purse from the cart and ran through the parking lot and fled the scene in a vehicle.
Thanks to store surveillance footage, an alert customer and a New York State Parole Officer in the area who observed it, police were able to quickly identify Tyman as the suspect.
Tyman was later located and taken into custody where she was arraigned in the Town of Macedon before Judge Ronald Reinstein. Tyman was remanded on $5,000 cash/$10,000 insurance bond. Tyman is to return to the Macedon Town Court on 12/2/14 at 1 pm.
Police were able to recover the stolen purse and credit cards on Wayneport Road, although it was missing approximately $400 in cash.
Tyman provided Officer David Demchuk a full confession to her actions and advised that she is a heroin user and committed the crime to further her drug addiction.
A record check shows Tyman has two felony and three prior misdemeanor arrests for Petit Larceny and Forgery.
Macedon Police Chief John Colella commended the quick action of witness’, along with hard work and dedication on the part of Officer David Demchuk who quickly resolved this investigation and recovered most of the stolen property. Chief Colella stated, “ To see the elderly victim struggle to make it in and out of the store due to her health issues, made this crime particularly disturbing. I have observed the devastating effect that heroin use has on an individual, however I have no sympathy for someone who commits crimes to further their drug addiction when they made the choice to use in the first place. For someone to prey on an elderly individual who is helpless disgusts me and our agency will utilize all the resources available to us to locate the suspects, to prosecute the suspects, and to insure they will no longer be a menace in our community. I think we as a society need to stop coddling drug abusers who do so by choice and shift the focus back on making our residents safe”.
