State Police out of Wolcott received an anonymous call to check the welfare of a man at 8173 Hampton Avenue in the Town of Huron at about 12:15 p.m. on Thursday (7/13).

The address is the home of Andrew R. Demay, age 54, who resides at the residence on his own.

Once police arrived they found a Boston Terrier dog dead. Demay, who had been drinking, told the troopers he was upset with his dog, Marley, for running away from him. An Animal Control Officer brought the dog back, that Demay had owned for 12 years.

Demay readily admitted he used his .45 calibre pistol and shot the dog in the head. Police confiscated the pistol and a AR10 Assault Rifle that was not legally compliant.

Demay, a retired security guard, was subsequently arrested for Felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Misdemeanor Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Residence and Felony Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.

A record check showed Demay has no prior criminal history. He was arraigned in Huron Town Court and remanded to jail on $5000 cash/$10,000 bond, waiting a preliminary hearing.
