Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies have made an arrest in the fatal shooting that happened early Tuesday morning in Ontario.
According to police, 34-year-old Brett Brookover was found dead at around 1:25 a.m. Tuesday in the driveway of 6403 Ontario Center Rd.
Tuesday morning, deputies arrested Lee Thomas, the man who lived at the home, and charged him with murder and attempted murder. According to investigators, Brookover had been a guest at the house and brought a friend, Marcus Stock, who is black. A comment was made about Stock’s race and an argument ensued. Brookover and Stock got up to leave when Thomas threatened to get his shotgun. As they left, deputies say Thomas shot at both of them, killing Brookover. Stock was able to escape uninjured.
Sheriff’s Deputies said the original call was for a home invasion, but that was determined to be false.
We will continue to update this story as details come in.
