The Wayne County office of Sheriff reported the investigation of a two car personal injury motor vehicle accident on Route 31 in the Town of Arcadia on Friday (3/4) at 11:50 a.m.
The 2013 4-door Ford Escape, operated by Amanda Cervantes, age 30 of Route 104 in the Town of Williamson was exiting the Arcadia Shopping Center and failed to yield the right of way to a Lyons Central School bus that was eastbound on Route 31. The bus struck the car. The five occupants of Cervante’s car, including two small children and three adults, were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital. One adult female passenger was transported by Mercy Flight, the others by ambulance. All three adults were categorized as having serious injuries. The two children, who had minor injuries, were reportedly in child seat restraints. Two adults had to extricated from the vehicle by the Fire Departments.
According to Road Patrol Lieutenant Al Graham, air bags deployed around the interior of the car. He added that the most severe injury was to the front seat female passenger, who has suffered life-threatening injuries. The other severely injured person was a male, rear seat passenger.
According to the Lyons School District, there was one elementary student, one middle school student and one high school student on the bus. The bus was headed back towards the district. No one on the bus was injured. The students’ parents were notified and they were picked up and taken home by another bus.
The Sheriff’s Offices’ Accident Reconstruction Team responded to reconstruct the accident. Charges are pending. Police could not release the names of the vehicle passengers at press time due to family notifications.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Newark Police Department, The New York State Police, Marbletown Fire Department, Newark Fire Department, Newark, Ambulance, Lyons Ambulance and Mercy Flight.
